RCCP Professional Bodies Education Committee - MembersPlease Note: The Committee Members have full-time posts in working departments and so they also have their own routine workload to handle. Consequently dealing with telephone enquiries is likely to be difficult. Wherever possible, please contact them in writing (email or fax) with any queries that you have that cannot be handled by our Administrative Assistant. Chair Message from PBEC Chair - Aug 2003Over the last three months PBEC members have been extremely busy as several Education Providers have submitted documentation for accreditation. This entails committee members reviewing submission documents for both Core Modules and Specialist Options Modules of the degree. Comprehensive reports are required and validation meetings need to be attended. PBEC members also attend other meetings regarding educational issues and have periodic forum meetings with Education Providers who are currently accredited by RCCP to offer the Vocational BSc Clinical Physiology degree. PBEC members have also been liaising with The Association for Clinical Physiologists Education (ACPE), which was formed in 2003 to provide Higher Education Institutions offering accredited courses in Clinical Physiology a forum for developing programme content and delivery in consultation with RCCP. The RCCP Petition for Registration has now gone to the Health Professions Council with a cut off date of 2007 for the new Qualification for the disciplines of Cardiology, GI Physiology, Neurophysiology and Respiratory Physiology. It is therefore imperative that trainee practitioners are enrolled on Audiology and Clinical Physiology degrees from 2003. A list of accredited providers for Clinical Physiology Degrees is shown above. This is a time of great change for our Professions and the introduction of National Standards and Logbooks will be a challenge. PBEC aims to be approachable and interactive, so please contact us via your Professional Representative regarding any educational issues. Best Wishes Anna Owen Hon Chair RCCP Professional Bodies Education Committee Access to year 3 of the degree and professional qualifications:Entry to year 3 of the Clinical Physiology Degree requires:
Accreditation Guidelines for Education ProvidersThe Accreditation Guidelines (Updated Sept 07) are downloadable via this link. This document is intended for use by those delivering and accrediting courses that lead to registration in the following disciplines: Cardiology, GI Physiology, Neurophysiology, Respiratory Physiology and Audiology.CPD Guidelines for RegistrantsThe CPD Guidelines and CPD Form (April 05) are downloadable via this link. As part of regulation of clinical physiology practitioners will have to produce evidence of continuing professional development (CPD). This model is developed to provide a manageable, measurable yet simple method for practitioners to keep a record of all development activities which lead to the maintenance and improvement of clinical practice. It is based on reflection on and in practice and over intervals of three years. RCCP will audit 3% of CPD records every 5 years from 2005. See also Health Professions Council Guidance on CPD. Training Centre Guidelines for Degree StudentsThese Training Centre Guidelines are issued by RCCP PBEC and are designed for training and assessment of students in the workplace following the part-time BSc in Clinical Physiology and are in line with the HPC standards of education and training. Institutions who follow the full-time route are directed to the section of those standards related to clinical placements. These are supplemented by the discipline specific guidance below:-
